Fundraising at St Nicholas House
There's nothing like the feeling of doing something good for others. That warm glow you get when you know that you have made a difference to someone. We all like to do our bit for the good of society and this is especially true for people living in care homes. Many of our residents have spent their lives actively involved in fundraising or running committees. Maybe they were on the PTA at their children’s school or maybe they ran the committee at their working men's club. Throughout their lives they’ve been able to contribute and it is so important to ensure that when people move into care homes, they're able to continue with this.
Staying connected to community isn't just about giving back though, it's about identity. For so many of our residents, their sense of who they are has been built over decades of being part of something bigger than themselves, whether that's the town they grew up in, the school gates they stood at every morning, or the local club they were proud members of. Moving into a care home doesn't mean that connection has to end. In fact, keeping those ties alive can make all the difference to someone's sense of purpose and belonging. It reminds residents that they're still valued members of their community, not just people being cared for, but people who still have something to offer.
This summer at RDCP Care we've set our care home managers a challenge. We've asked them to come up with a fun community fundraising idea and to nominate a local charity to benefit from the event. Our managers are always up for a challenge and this time was no different. Over the past few weeks, we've had some fabulous things going on. We've had summer fairs and parties, and we still have so much more to come.

It's so important that we support our residents to support others, and we hope that in turn you will support us and local charities that do so much for our communities.
